Aegir was the Nordic Sea God. (Also known as Gymir) Aegir married Ran, the Goddess of the Sea, together they had 9 Daughters, The waves.
The front is an image of Waves with Aegir's Daughters above.
The back has stanzas 28-30 of the poem Helgakviða Hundingsbana I, from the Poetic Edda, which references Aegir's 9 daughters. (Kolga is one of the daughters).
It is the story of the hero Helgi when his ship ran across stormy seas and 'Aegir's Daughters' tried to take them down.
It reads: There was beat of oars and clash of iron, Shield smote shield as the ships'-folk rowed; Swiftly went the warrior-laden Fleet of the ruler forth from the land. So did it sound, when together the sisters Of Kolga struck with the keels full long, As if cliffs were broken with beating surf, Helgi bade higher hoist the sails, Nor did the ships'-folk shun the waves, Though dreadfully did Ægir's daughters Seek the steeds of the sea to sink.
